About Markah

What We Do

Markah is a web application that helps Malaysian secondary school English teachers grade handwritten student essays faster and more consistently. Teachers photograph student essays with their phone, and Markah reads the handwriting, then scores each essay against the official Ministry of Education marking rubrics.

Who We Serve

Markah is built for Malaysian English teachers grading:

• SPM English 1119/2: Part 1 (short communicative message), Part 2 (guided writing) and Part 3 (extended writing: story, article, report or review)
• Form 1–3 English using the PT3-format rubric: Part 1 and Part 2
• Custom written assessments using any rubric

Our Mission

Marking essays is one of the most time-consuming tasks a teacher faces. Markah exists to give teachers that time back — without sacrificing the quality or consistency of feedback students receive. We believe Markah should assist, not replace, the teacher's professional judgement.

Technology

Markah reads handwritten essays from photos and scores them against official marking rubrics. Essay photos are stored securely with your class so you can check the transcription against the original and re-grade an essay. They are deleted when you delete the class (from your Account page) or your account. Grading results are saved to your account only.

Markah is operated by Niskala, a technology company based in Kuala Terengganu, Malaysia. We build practical software for education and business.
